The Chicken Series Part III: A series I started in 2007 continues to be relevant in my work now. I keep finding the color, texture, shapes, and gestures of these animals to be interesting subjects to paint. Last year I concentrated in watercolors of the poultry I had seen at the Washington County Fair.
This year,2009, I am working in a larger format and am inspired by watching the poultry move in their everyday environment. Some are free range running from place to place and others in their coop pecking thier food and roosting.
There is a certain freedom I have when I use waterbased mixed media that I don't have with oils, it lets me loose myself in whatever subject I choose to paint. In this series I allowed myself that freedom plus “the poulets” make me laugh, each has a very particular personality which presents itself in the finished product.
When I paint, all the worlds’ troubles dwindle away for brief moments of pure creativity and I create joy.

The Chickens:
A series I started in 2007, continues to be relevant in my work now. I keep finding the color, texture, shapes, and gestures of these animals to be interesting subjects to paint. The subjects here are watercolors based on poultry seen at the Washington County Fair in 2008.
The Fish:
The Fish: Another recurrent subject of mine, the goldfish and koi always keep me challenged. I continue to get lost in the waters with the colors and the light. I am especially fascinated with using mixed media to create layers in order to keep the depth.
