Leah began her career as an artist in 1982 after she graduated with a BFA from Syracuse University, but put it on hold to work in the fashion industry for the next 15 yrs. In 1996 Leah renewed her passion in her art and decided to study at the Art Students League in NYC. Here she found a different perspective in her wonderful mentors: Frank O’Cain, and Hannah Harrari; her inspiration comes from such artists as Henri Matisse and especially Richard Diebenkorn.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous places including, Small Works show at the Salander O’Reilly Gallery NYC, Gallery 100 Saratoga Springs, NY. She has had solo- exhibitions at the Mimosa Gallery Saratoga Springs, NY, Crimson Gallery Saratoga Springs, NY. and a group show at The Gardenworks Gallery Salem. NY. In 2009 she had a a solo show in the small gallery of the Valley Artisans in Cambridge NY., and participated in a group show at the Riverfront Studios in Schuylerville, NY.
Leah says of her work. "Lately I have been asked why I am so fascinated with Chickens. It all started with a small Bantum Rooster that I met at the Troy farmers market. That led me to the NE Poultry Congress is Springfield Ma. where I was introduced to the world of Heritage Breed Poultry. In many ways these wonderful birds remind me of my days in the fashion industry; the roosters strut like models down runways, showing off the colors and patterns of their feathers like the latest in Fall fashion . I am smitten“
Today Leah splits her time between her work in NYC as Exhibition Outreach Program Director at the Art Students League of New York and her studio/home in Salem, NY.
